Geotechnical Investigation
^
Proposed Courthouse Square - Salem, Oregon
,.
f
8. Compaction of fills other than trench backfills shall be done with an adequate
R 4 sheepsfoot roller, or an approved equal, unless otherwise specified.
~ ,
l,
9. Footing excavations shall be cleaned of all loose soils, clods and mud to expose firm
~' undisturbed soils. This shall be done just prior to placement of concrete.
10. For specifications not specifically covered in this report, refer to local city and county
standards.
7.3 Foundation Design Criteria
Footings
1. Maximum allowable bearing shall not exceed 6,000 psf for dead load plus live load
for footings on native dense gravelly soils. This values may be increased 1/3 for
seismic and wind load conditions.
2. Maximum allowable bearing shall not exceed 2,500 psf for dead load plus live load
for footings placed entirely or in part on compacted fill. This value may be increased
1/3 for seismic and wind load conditions.
3. To utilize the xziaximum allowable bearing value, all footings must extend through
any fill or liackfill to bear on dense native gravelly soils.
4. It is recommended that all foundation elements be placed a minimum of 18 inches
below lowest adjacent grade. This will include expected frost penetration protection
for perimeter areas outside the garage excavation.
5. Recommended coefficient of friction between the base of footings and on site soils
is 0.50. Recommended passive earth pressure resistance is 350 pcf.
~~~
~ centurywest
ENGINEERING CORPORATION
March 7, 1997 40806.001.08
~
s
~
