• All storage areas for housekeeping equipment and products should have separate exhausts
vented to the outside and should be ventilated and operable under negative pressure. Clarify
that the design complies with this credit or estimate the cost of compliance.
SAFEGUARDING WATER
Credit 1: Water-Conserving Fixtures
Install fixtures that use 20% less water than the water usage requirements in the Energy Policy Act
of 1992 as follows:
Fixture Requirement 20% Reduction
Showerhead 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Lavatory Fixture 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Lavatory replacement aerators 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Kitchen faucets 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Kitchen replacement aerates 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Metering faucets 0.25 gailons/cy 0.20 gallons/cy
Gravity tank-type toilets 1.6 gallons/flush** 1.3 gallons/flush
Flushometer tank toilets 1.6 gallons/flush 1.3 gallons/flush
Electromechanical hydraulic toilets 1.6 gallons/flush 1.3 gallons/flush
Blowout toilets 1.6 gallons/flush 1.3 gallons/flush
Urinals 1.0 gallons/flush 0.8 gallons/flush
* At flowing water pressure of 80 pounds per square inch.
** Gravity tank type white 2-piece toilets which bear an adhesive label ("Commercial Use Only")
manufactured after January i, 1994 and before January 1, 1997, are 3.5 gallons/flush.
The specifications and drawings call for flow control devices for showers to prevent flow
over 2.0 gallons/minute and for public lavatories to prevent flow over 0.5 gallons/minute.
Also specified are infrared sensors for lavatories. The rest of the fixtures do not meet the
20% reduction requirement. To obtain this credit it must be shown that the total water
consumption will be 20% less than it would be using fixtures that meet the requirements of
the Energy Policy Act oj1992. Estimate the cost to conduct a consumption calculation based
on the demand calculation used to determine the fixture counts and piping sizes.
Credit 4: Water-Efficient Landscape
Use only plants that are tolerant of climate, soils, and natural water availability, and that do
not receive watering from municipal potable water after a period of establishment is
complete.
• The plants listed on Sheet L 1.0 are native to this climate, however, they will need to be
watered after they are established. This credit can be obtained if plants are selected that
will not need watering after they are established. If this is not possible, a variance to
achieve this credit may be obtained if the following can be documented. Estimate the
cost to specify landscaping that will not need to be watered or the cost to document the
following information:
Container plantings were selected over other types of landscaping to minimize the
use of water and avoid the installation of an irrigation system.
The types of plants selected for the containers are well adapted to the site, tolerant of
climate, soils, and need minimum watering from municipal potable water after
establishment.
Plants were selected to he(p as windbreaks or decrease noise.
A seasonal maintenance schedule has been planned to address specific times for
pruning, watering, pest inspection, etc. In addition, mulching and composting will
be used to maintain plant health.
