Provide a minimum of
85% filtration, as determined by ASHRAE Standard 52.1 - 1992, on return-side system
components during construction and replace all filtration media prior to occupancy if the
return air side of a system is used during construction.
The following is a suggested strategy to comply with the intent of this credit. Other
strategies that comply with the intent of the credit can also be considered:
Comply with the intent of the Basic Construction IAQ Management Plan
Reduce construction contaminants in the building prior to occupancy. Make
temporary ventilation a requirement in the General Conditions of the construction
contract. Check for possible damage to the system from high humidity. Use
100°Io outside air ventilation (depending on climate) with air exhausted directly to
the outside during installation of finishes and other VOC emitting materials.
Check that the maximum outside air ventilation rate does not exceed heating, cooling,
and humidity levels.
Provide a minimum of 85°Io filtration, if the return air side of an HVAC system is
used during construction. Separate filtration media should be specified on any
permanent equipment during construction. Just prior to occupancy, new clean
media should be installed. All coils, air filters, and fans should be clean before
testing and balancing is done and especially before baseline air quality tests are
conducted.
Credit 4: Design of Chemical Storage Areas
Design all chemical storage and mixing areas for housekeeping products (both central
storage facilities and janitors closets) to allow for secure product storage in spaces that
have water in the chemical concentrate mixing areas, with drains plumbed for the
appropriate disposal of liquid waste, separate outside venting, and negative pressure.
All storage areas for housekeeping equipment and products should have separate exhausts
vented to the outside and should be ventilated and operable under negative pressure.
SAFEGUARDING WATER
Credit 1: Water-Conserving Fixtures
Install fixtures that use 20% less water than the water usage requirements in the Energy
' Policy Act of 1992 as follows:
Fixture Requirement 20°Io Reduction
Showerhead 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
Lavatory Fixture 2.5 gallons/minute* 2.0 gallons/minute
