From: VALERIE SAIKI
• To: GWM2.M-EDISON.RCURTIS, GWM2.M-MCDCI.BWASSON
Date: 9/1J98 2:19pm
Subject: Security Issues from Departments
Over the last week I have been meeting with departments who will have offices in the new Courthouse Square. I
have oompiled a list of security related items to bring to your attention for the construction of the building. I have
told departments that 1 would bring these suggestions to your attention, but I didn't make any oommitments. I have
copied the department oontacts with this information so that they can answer any questions you may have of them.
PARKING LEVEL
-wll there be any security for their cars from vandals?
-What kind of security is there for empbyees who come work very early, late or on weekends? (DA, Building
Inspedion, Planning, Payroll)
-wll there be locked bu.ycle radcs?
-Are there going to be gates, controlled entrances? Will there be after hours axess?
GROUND FLOOR
-Is there a plan for a bbby security/reception station?
-Lighting on the pillars create shadows, if they were to be moved in between, this could be prevented.
-Exiting the parking strudure, will there be an alarms to alert pedestrians of the traffic?
-This is also suggested for the 'building services" vehicles.
-Convex mirrors for the mail delivery vehicles to look for oncoming pedestrian traffio on the exterior of the building.
Is there ~ separate ventilation system for the copier, offset press and indoor service area where they have secured
vehide storage?
--Concrete bumper bbcks or some device in the indoor mail delivery to prevent the vehide form hitting the walls or
opened doors.
. -What bathrooms would their staff use? Does every floor have to have public restrooms, or can we designate only
certain floors have them?
-Is there an eyewash that is plumbed to a drain located 15 seconds from the chemical transfeNstorage area?
-Can you oontrol who goes down the corridor to Mail Room?
-There are several blind spots where convex miROrs in the corner would provide additional security.
-Will the dumpsters be inside the building or outdoors in open air? If indoors, is the ventilation sufficient for
preventing molds growth and recirculated into the building?
SECOND FLOOR
Planning
-extend the oounter with a buu through hal~doo~ (similar to BOC's)
-A lodcing door between planning and Building inspection
-panic alarm
Building Inspection:
-Extend counter to wall to accommodate a locking half~ioor that opens from inside.
-Controlled acoess on the west entranoe from halMray to employee area
-Change bbby entranoe to direct flow of traffic to the customer counter.
Assessors:
I will be meeting with them late today and will have Gayla e-mail you so that you have any of their concems today,
also.
THIRD FLOOR
DA' s Office:
-Can they have overflow customer seating in the elevator lobby?
-Can you alarm a locked door from Housing in the west end entrance?
. -Can there be an access controlled door by the west haliway/stairwell entrance?
Can there be a controlled access door into the hallway leading to the east stairs (long hall) for employee access
ony with an alarm on the out going direction?
