Time Capsules, Inc. http://www.burgh.com/business/capsules/deterioration.phtml
~~ '~ ~~~~~~~~ ~ ~m
"It's about tim~ "
Time Capsules, Inc: Deterioration and how we protect against it
Time Capsules, Inc. has developed a technology to preserve books, documents, metals, plastics and archival
materials of almost any type for as long as the capsule itself lasts.
For many years researchers have sought answers to the causes of deterioration of book paper, documents and
other cellulose containing archival materials. Five major causes for deterioration have been identified:
1. Acid catalyzed degradation of the cellulose fibers.
2. Oxidation of the cellulose molecules.
3. Ultra-violet light catalyzed degradation through highly complex mechanisms.
4. Insect infestation.
5. The attack of fungus or bacterial organisms which may thrive on chemicals that remain in paper after
its manufacture.
The time capsule is a unique container, custom built to your specifications, with a controlled environment to
protect and preserve virtually any material for centuries. The construction of the capsule enables us to guarantee
it for 500 years against fire and flood damage should such natural disasters occur where the capsule is stored.
Learn more about:
• How we are already a part of the tricentennial
• Some of our clients usin our capsules, including the Library of Congress
• A few of the many dif~erent items you can enclose in a time capsule
• Or retun to our home na~e
For more information, contact:
Tom Marak
Time Capsules, Inc.
RD#l, Box 121
Prospect, PA 16052
Toll Free: 1-800-527-7853
Email: mrdigital@mrdigital.com
1 of 2 9/11/97 10:18 PM
