For Board Meeting of December 18,1997
Agenda Item # H.1.a.
MEMO TO: BOARD OF DIRECTO
FROM: R. G. ANDERSEN WYCKOFF, GENERAL MANAGER
SUBJECT: STATUS REPORT
Issue
Information only.
Background
The General Manager provides the Board with a monthly status report on non-
agenda item.
Facts and Findings
1. Bridge Crossing Task Force...The Board requested information on District
representation on the COG Bridge Crossing Capacity Major Investment Study
(MIS) Task Force. We found that it was the SKATS Policy Committee who
specifically asked for a transit user representative on the MIS. This is in
addition to our Board members. The enti~e SKATS Citizens Advisory
Committee is on the MIS and Deborah Feldner is the SD-CAC representative
on that group from Transit, however, she has said she does not wish to serve
on the MIS. SD-CAC will recommend an appointment to the Board to replace
Ms. Feldner, at its January 5~' meeting and we will place that item on your
January 22nd Board agenda. For your information, Sonny Ortiz, one of our
Budget Committee members, is on the MIS, though not representing us, but
can give us input if needed.
2. CNG Update...0ur six new CNG buses are on production schedule for
delivery in August 1998. We have not yet added the two additional buses until
we have a confirmation from Congress of the additional funding
Congresswoman Hooley secured for us. We know that it was approved and
signed by the President and is covered by the ISTEA extension passed by
Congress, however, until it appears in the Federal Register FTA will not give us
authorization. As soon as we receive that we will be able to add it to our order,
per your previous action. In addition, we are in the process of receiving bids
for the installation of the CNG refueling station and hope to have that ready for
your review and approval in January. The City Fire Marshall's office has been
working with our staff in dealing with the safety issues surrounding this new
station and is receiving a liberal education, as we are. At this time it appears
that everything will be able to move ahead on schedule to be ready for our new
bus operation in August. We plan to place the buses in operation in
September. It is my desire to bring all the CNG station contracts and issues to
you as a package so that you have the entire picture, and costs, before
proceeding.
149
