~
~
~
Courthouse Square Design Team Meeting ;
March 6,1997 ',
Present: Randy Curtis, RG Andersen-Wyckoff, Alan Costic, Leonard Lodd~r, Dan Berrey,
Dave Hayes '
Agenda: Updates
Parking Structure: Dan opened the meeting with information on the parking struc~ure. They have
the cost down to $l lk per stall. There is no longer an added cost to the county or td transit. Dave,
Len and Dan will meet on Monday, 3/10 to discuss some of the project costs. Th y will come up
with a new cost estimate of the project, based on the design elements that are bein~ addressed.
Len and Dave reported that the stacked design is the better system. There are time f~ames involved
with this, but the soil test came back good. Other cost saving ideas are being looke~i at to keep the
cost down to $1 lk per stall. The 30 foot bays will help the rest of the building. Th~re was general
discussion around fireproofing the steel structure. I
Len reported that the design they aze working on now has brought the walls in to alig~ with the walls
above. With new design, there is no parking under the plaza. There is always tl~e potential for
differential settlement, so they avoid having exterior levels. This leaves the plaza s~tting on grade.
~
There is a shortage of fifteen parking stalls. There was discussion around the vac~ncy rate of the
downtown area and the demand for parking. With the two floor design, we will hav~ thirteen stalls
more than Dan will need. He needs to be sure that the space is built before he can m~rket the space.
Dan said that he can market the space as having two parking spaces and give the ~extra spaces to
Randy. Alan pointed out that we will be the only building in the downtown area w~ere the busses
let you off at your building. RG reported that they are looking at the security contijacts right now.
They are going to do a good job controlling and monitoring the space using transit ~olice. Transit
will have more control over security and there will be new ordinances. Transit has toltal control over
bus mall security issues.
Dan asked for some research to be done on the possibility of inetering some of the
to generate revenue. Randy explained that the visitar parking is meant for cou
Because they say visitor, anyone doing business downtown will be using them. Hf
metering all of the visitor parking. Staff can issue permits to people coming to m~
doesn't want us to go to Sarah at this time. Without the fifth floor, he will be stu~
pazking. With the fifth floor we will have to look at the spaces we have. He would 1
when we know how many spaces we are over. With COP financing and with the m~
more revenue, there will not be a budget issue. If we meter all the customer parking
not to put customer parking in transit's space. The county could collect all the r
agreed that at this time, it is premature to worry about the allocation.
Time line:
Len has a civil engineering meeting with Steve set for Monday, 3/1
~ublic parking
ity customers.
is considering
~tings. Randy
k with a lot of
ke to visit this
:ers generating
may be better
venue. It was
Dan asked if
