Demolition: The site survey is completed. The demolition plan is completed and will be finalized
tomorrow (3/7). Dan will get this to Dave. Len reported that Steve is concerned about the vacation
permit for the alley. EYCavation can be handled separately. The vacation of the alley should not
interfere with what the contractors need to do.
Civil: Dan is not concerned about the civil permit at this time. The technical specs are done.
The civil plan review is scheduled for 5/19.
Design: Dan showed Randy the new design of the fifth floor, with the atrium coming through.
There was general discussion around the design. Dave is going to work further on the atrium design
and cost. Len reported that the cost of the glass covering over the pedestrian walkways is at about
$25.00 sf, which is better than originally expected.
The tower and northwest corner are changing to be less of a tower and more of a square corner with
a sloping roof to match the plaza. The corner still mimics the plaza side. Dan will double check the
common areas before Len finalizes the design.
Mechanical: Len reported that he has been contacted by people at the Dept. of Energy who would
like to commission the mechanical system. He has had experience with this in Ontario. Going
through the commissioning process generally addresses problems immediately and we will more
likely have a more functioning building. The state will provide a 35% tax credit to cover a portion
of the cost. Randy has already put some language in the development agreement. He wouldn't mind
paying to avoid the problems that come with the mechanicals.
Dan needs to have some meetings with Mark to explore some of the tax credit options. Len highly
recommends commissioning the mechanical.
ACTION: Dan and Len will set up a meeting with the state. Len has asked them for a list of
people who deal with this. It should not be the company that installs the mechanical.
Day care: Dan is hoping to have the day care issue resolved in about two weeks.
Traffic Flow: RG asked Len about the flow of traffic out of the parking garage. Traffic will have
to cross and there is also a sight distance issue.
ACTION: Len will look at the design.
Ground Breaking: Randy asked for discussion on the ground breaking issue. We are nearing the
point where we need to decide if we want a ground breaking ceremony. Traditionally the county
does this. It can be done two ways, either when the building comes down, or after demolition by
turning over a shovel full of soil. This takes planning. Dan supports the idea of a ground breaking
ceremony. The project needs the PR. Ideally, if we could take one part of the building to knock
down, because the demolition is not going to bring the building down in one explosion. RG said that
