Press release 2 file:///C~/HOTDOG/PUBLISH/C_SQUARE/~hdg0756.HT'M
Press Release: December 10, 1997
~ Courthouse Square may get oversight committee
An independent advisory committee to oversee development of Courthouse Square was under
discussion Wednesday at the regular meeting of the Marion County Board of Commissioners.
Board Chair Randy Franke said questions have been raised concerning financing, selection of
consultants and cost projections for the transit mall and office building being developed jointly by the
county and transit district.
"Public confidence in the project has been eroded and we need some independent oversight and advice
to restore that confidence," Franke said.
The oversight committee would serve as a sounding board for staff, review all major decisions
affecting the project and serve as advisors on the project to the Board of Commissioners and the Salem
Area Transit District Board. The committee would have the authority to review public spending on
Courthouse Square and any major policy decisions affecting design, budget, financing, selection of
consultants and construction schedules.
* ~ ~
Press release: Dec. 3
~~ Return to Courthouse Square Home Page
~ Return to Board of Commissioners Home Pag~
~ Return to Marion Count~ Home Pa~e
lofl
12/10/97 1:10 PM
