Program Evaluation <br />R.ESPIRATOR SELECTION: <br />In general, the potential air contaminant hazards for a particular <br />project will be evaluated by the Safety Officer prior to the <br />commencement of work, and a decision as to the most appropriate <br />respirator system will be made based upon that evaluation. The Safety <br />Officer may request selection assistance from outside consultants, <br />and/or respirator manufacturers or distributors. <br />1. DUST I~fASRS <br />Dust masks are to be used onlv for protection against nuisance <br />contaminants such as non-toxic dusts, and non-hazardous levels of <br />fumes and vapors. Dust masks generally do not provide a good seal <br />against the face, and thus are inadequate for protection against <br />hazardous air contaminants. <br />
