2 <br />contain airborne lead compounds. <br />Work will be accomplished utilizing identical crews, equipment and <br />methods through out the duration of the project. <br />HAZARD CONTROLS (ENGINEERED EXPOSURE REDUCTION): <br />Mechanical ventilation may be used on this project. The purpose of <br />mechanical ventilation is to move air in and out of the work area <br />with the purpose of dilution in mind. On site evaluation regarding <br />lead contamination outside the work area will determine whether or <br />not ventilation will be used. Negative pressure ventilation will <br />not be used at this site. OSHA has determined that mechanical <br />ventilation can reduce airborne concentrations by as much as 50%. <br />For purposes of this compliance plan these figures will be used by <br />Staton Construction unless data demonstrating otherwise is <br />generated. <br />Water will be applied to all painted surfaces before and during <br />demolition activities to reduce the possibility of exposure by <br />airborne emissions. Dust suppression will be the primary engineered <br />control for lead exposure reduction. Debris will be kept <br />sufficiently wet to prevent dust. Water will not be used in <br />excessive amounts which might cause the spread of contaminants <br />outside the work area. <br />Prompt and regular removal of accumulated debris will be performed <br />to minimize employee contact. <br />When employees enter and exit work areas, specific procedures will <br />be utilized to minimize lead contamination being taken outside the <br />work area, and to protect workers from contamination through <br />exposure to the skin, digestive system or respiratory system. These <br />procedures are more thoroughly explained in other areas of this <br />document. <br />HAZARD CONTROL (RESPIRATORY PROTECTION): <br />Respirators will be used by all employees involved in interior or <br />exterior demolition activities until data can be provided through <br />air monitoring which shows exposure to lead is below the PEL <br />(Permissible Exposure Limits). Workers will be provided with <br />respiratory protection if they are exposed at any level and request <br />such protection. In all cases compliance with 29 CFR 1926.62 will <br />be achieved. In addition, there is a schedule for use of specific <br />respirators based on exposure levels (determined by air monitoring) <br />and the protection factor of that respirator. The respirator from <br />that schedule for this project is: PAPR with HEPA cartridqes. <br />Staton Construction, as required by 29 CFR 1910.134 (b) ,(d) ,(e) and <br />(f), has in place, a respiratory protection plan.
