-6-
VI. Medical Surveillance= All HazMat-trained employees working on
this project receive an annual occupational health medical
examination. As this is not considered a hazardous waste
cleanup site. workers are not required to have this routine
medical screening.
Medical examinations, and follow up medical surveillance (if
required) will be provided to any employee for whom a known, or
reasonably suspected, a chemical overexposure has occurred.
Al1 wvrkers will be continuously monitored, by site
supervisors, for signs of over-exposure. During warm weather,
all employees will also be continuously manitored for symptoms
of heat stress :
HEAT CRAMPS: Painful muscle spasms; affected worker will be
instructed to take a 30 min break, drink fluids, and cool
down until symptoms subside. If symptoms persist, or re-
occur, worker will be relieved from further activity for the
day.
HEAT EXHAUSTION: Grayish skin, faintness or dizziness, cold
clammy skin, dilated (wide open) pupils; worker will be
removed to a shaded or cool rest area and instructed to
drink fluids. When stable, the individual will be
transported home.
HEAT STROKE: Dry hot skin possibly with reddening, very high
body temperature, possible uriconsciousness, constricted
(small) pupils, ~ TRUE MEDICAL~ EMERGENCY; worker will be
brought to a shaded or cool area. Water, wet towels, and/or
ice will be placed on body to lower body temperature.
Emergency medical assistance and transportation will be
summoned imme atelv.
VII. Monitoring: Field monitoring is not required for this project.
Staton personnel will be responsible for inspecting the dip
tank components, and underlying soils, as disassembly proceeds
for any signs of gross levels of residual wood treating product
contamination. .If such contamination is detected, care will be
taken to avoid contact with the affected materials, and the
situation will be immediately reported to Staton supervisors
and designated Weyerhaeuser officials.
