<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Ferry Operator Relief <br />Class Code: <br />446 <br />Bargaining Unit: 06 - Marion County Employees <br />Association <br />MARION COUNTY <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$18.67 - $25.02 Hourly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Non-Exempt 08 Service MaintenancePublic Works <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />During scheduled and/or non-scheduled absences of the Ferry Operator incumbent operates a cable- <br />guided, power driven, open deck ferry transporting passengers and vehicles across the Willamette River. <br />When not functioning as a relief ferry operator, performs the duties of a Medium Equipment Operator. <br />Performs other related duties as required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the direction of a crew leader and/or department supervisor while receiving general <br />instruction and regular on-site monitoring of work operations. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision is not a responsibility of positions in this class; however, when assigned incumbent may <br />coordinate the work of seasonal toll takers while occasionally acting as lead worker over lower level <br />employees and correction work crews. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />1.Operates a power-drive ferry transporting passengers, trucks and automobiles; observes <br />prescribed safety precautions in loading and unloading ferry, tying up to or casting off from the <br />dock and in making the river crossing. <br />2.Performs general maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs to ferry equipment. <br />3.Provides information to the public on ferry operations; notifies dispatch or supervisor of <br />unscheduled closures due to repair or weather conditions so that closed signs may be posted in <br />local areas. <br />4.Keeps monthly records, as needed. <br />5.Advises superior of major breakdowns, or suspected breakdowns. <br />6.Visually checks trucks for overloading. <br />7.Assists in protecting ferry from damage due to high water. <br />8.Collect required tolls from vehicle operators; makes change and sells tickets; accurately prepares <br />and secures bank deposits. <br />9.Operate dump trucks, and up to and including 12 yard dump truck, in hauling and dumping <br />construction materials and equipment. <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/3/2020 <br /> <br />
