Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />9.May take part in chemical hazard clean ups, according to training given, for incidents on roads and <br />road related properties. <br />10.Performs heavy manual labor, including digging ditches, cleaning and installing culverts or drain <br />tiles, cutting and chipping brush, removing obstacles from roadway and adjacent area, hand <br />loading and unloading all types of materials. <br />11.Acts as a flagger, controlling and directing traffic around hazards or crews in roadways. <br />12.Operates cars, pickups, light trucks (one ton or less), forklifts and tools such as chain saws, <br />jackhammers, weed eaters, grinding machines, pavement cutter, etc. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from high school; AND <br />2.One (1) year of experience in the operations or maintenance of marine vessels; AND <br />3.One (1) year of customer service experience, which includes cash handling. <br />4.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Completion of on-the-job training at the ferry site for a period of 45 (8-hour) days of actual <br />> <br />operation (including launching and operation of the work/rescue boat) within 60 days of hire. <br />Some positions may require possession of, or obtain within five (5) months of hire, certification of <br />> <br />an appropriate Coast Guard inland operator's license. This includes the ability to pass general <br />physical and vision examination requirements for the Coast Guard license. <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at <br />> <br />time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Final candidate must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening test. <br />> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Knowledge of methods and materials used on road construction and repair; state laws pertaining to <br />operation of motor vehicles and equipment on roads and highways; work methods required to perform in <br />specialty as assigned; safety practices and methods to perform efficiently within the specialty area; the <br />construction, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment of a power driven ferry; navigation <br />regulations applicable to ferry operations and other assigned areas of operations, inspections methods, <br />and procedures; public and customer service techniques; basic math and bookkeeping techniques. <br />Skills and abilities to perform strenuous manual work under hazardous conditions and adverse weather <br />conditions; have good mechanical aptitude and dexterity; have good reading comprehension skills; <br />perform specialized construction work; lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; operate the ferry and transport <br />vehicles and passengers over water; respond quickly and appropriately, thinking quickly and clearly in <br />emergencies; follow prescribed safety procedures; complete and maintain accurate records; operate and <br />perform limited maintenance and repair on powered equipment; accurately count, record, and balance <br />monies; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with county employees and the <br />public. <br />ADOPTED: <br />04/78 <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/3/2020 <br /> <br />
