<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Deputy District <br />Attorney 4 <br />Class Code: <br />635 <br />Bargaining Unit: 13 - Non-Supervisory <br />MARION COUNTY <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$4,138.40 - $5,542.40 Biweekly <br />$8,966.53 - $12,008.53 Monthly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Exempt02 ProfessionalsDistrict Attorney <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />In the Deputy District Attorney series, this is the senior level classification over the Deputy DA 1, 2 and 3 <br />classifications. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classifications in this series by <br />assuming lead responsibility, and independent decision-making. Also has primary responsibility for major <br />cases as designated by the District Attorney, including but not limited to: Aggravated Murder cases, post <br />conviction matters and appellate reversals on major cases (retrials) as well as training duties. Conducts <br />all phases of criminal prosecution for major case litigation in Circuit Court proceedings on behalf of <br />Marion County. Performs other work as required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under general supervision of Trial Team Supervisor and District Attorney, who assign work, <br />establish goals, and review performance for overall effectiveness through conferences. This is an <br />unclassified position that serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of others is not a responsibility of positions in this classification; however incumbents may act <br />as lead worker over lower level Deputy District Attorneys. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />1.Legislative/caselaw review and process development in light of any new statutory obligations or <br />changes; propose processes for effective and timely implementation of statutory changes and <br />advise the District Attorney and deputy district attorneys on issues. Develops training opportunities <br />and written briefings as necessary. <br />2.Initiates and prosecutes homicide and major felony cases where Circuit Court has jurisdiction; <br />consults with and advises police agencies in the course of investigations; reviews police reports <br />and makes initial charging decision; prepares major cases for presentation to Grand Jury or for <br />preliminary hearings. <br />3.Prepares for trial, including contacting witnesses and reviewing the case.
