May do vector surveys and control treatment as <br />required. <br />7.Inspects public swimming pools and spa pools and checks for compliance with state laws and <br />regulations. <br />8.Inspects tourist accommodations, organizational camps, and RV parks for compliance with state <br />laws and regulations. <br />9.Investigates complaints of sanitary nuisances; may inspect new home construction as to sewage <br />disposal; public facilities for compliance with federal and state loan agency requirements. <br />10.Condemns merchandise and other material offered for sale or use in violation of sanitary <br />regulations; collects and preserves evidence; testifies in court and assists in preparing and <br />conducting legal proceedings and defenses. <br />11.Keeps records of inspections and other activities; prepares reports and recommendations; and <br />does other work as assigned. <br />12.Does plan reviews on public facilities for health and safety. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Bachelor's degree with 45 quarter hours, or 31 semester hours, in science courses relating to <br />environmental sanitation. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, at time of application, and maintain a valid Class C Oregon driver's license and <br />> <br />acceptable driving record. <br />Must have own transportation. <br />> <br />Must possess and maintain proof of personal automobile liability insurance, at a minimum, in the <br />> <br />amount required by Oregon Law \[ORS Chapter 806\]. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Must obtain and maintain a Sanitarian Trainee Registration and continuing education units as <br />> <br />required by Sanitarian's Registration Act within 30 days of hire. <br />Must successfully pass the Registered Sanitarian examinations conducted by the Sanitarian's <br />> <br />Registration Board upon completion of the required number of hours worked as a Registered <br />Sanitarian Trainee in the State of Oregon \[3840 hours/2 years\] in accordance with ORS 700.010 to <br />700.990. Failure to successfully pass the required Sanitarian examinations will result in <br />termination from this position. <br />Must be able to obtain a Public Health Pesticide Applicators license from the Oregon Department <br />> <br />of Agriculture in a 90-day notice. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Basic knowledge of theory and practices of environmental health; some knowledge of the laws and <br />administrative rules governing the sanitation programs of the state; ability to make investigations; compile <br />data; and present a clear, concise report; some knowledge of the equipment used, business practices <br />and techniques of those industries in which the programs are concerned; ability to promote awareness of <br />and participation toward, the correction of public health problems among the general public.
