Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />6.Under the direction of management or behaviorist, observe and interact with animals at shelter to <br />assist with behavioral assessments on dogs in accordance with established guidelines and <br />protocols. <br />7.Oversee, develop and coordinate programs beneficial to the shelter. <br />8.Create and present presentations as needed. <br />9.May be required to obtain certification in specialty skills needed to coordinate programs necessary <br />to the shelter. <br />10.Oversee, train, and direct contracted work crews who provide daily kennel care, feeding and other <br />care for boarded dogs. <br />11.Other duties as assigned. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from high school, or equivalent; AND <br />2.One (1) year of experience in customer service, basic computer skills, and record keeping; AND <br />3.One (1) year of experience in an animal-related field such as veterinarian assistant, animal training <br />facility or shelter work; OR <br />4.Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training relevant to the position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at <br />> <br />time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Obtain Euthanasia Certification with the State of Oregon, or be able to obtain within 6 months of <br />> <br />employment. <br />This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be <br />> <br />required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. Marion County's <br />Drug and Alcohol Policy can be found at: <br />Marion County Drug and Alcohol Use and Testing Policy <br />> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Working knowledge of: animal behavior and basic animal health; safe and efficient animal handling; <br />paperless record keeping; use of specialized computer software. Some knowledge of: State and County <br />laws, ordinances, local regulations, and policies and procedures governing the control, impoundment, <br />retention, and release of dogs. <br />Skills & abilities to: Safely and compassionately, handle and care for dogs of varying temperaments in <br />stressful situations and environments. Safe and effective use of specialty equipment, along with <br />appropriate maintenance of equipment. Establish and maintain cooperative, respectful, and positive <br />working relationships with internal and external customers; provide customer service in a friendly and <br />effective manner. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Duties involve exposure to frightened, injured, aggressive, and/or sick dogs. Possible exposure to <br />zoonotic diseases. Work is performed both in an office environment, kennels, and outdoors in a variety of <br />weather conditions, year round. Exert moderate to extensive amount of physical effort involving stooping, <br />crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting, and carrying.
