<br />TAX CLERK <br /> <br /> Classification #: 004 <br /> FLSA: Non-Exempt <br /> EEOC:06 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: <br />Performs complex clerical/accounting duties requiring thorough knowledge of laws and <br />procedures relating to tax collection; processes and maintains a variety of records and <br />documents; performs related work as required. Includes detailed recordkeeping and considerable <br />customer service at the counter, on the telephone, by e-mail and/or fax. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED: <br />Works under the direction or supervision of the Senior Tax Clerk or Tax Office Supervisor, who <br />sets goals, assigns work, and reviews performance to insure conformity to departmental and legal <br />requirements. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Supervision of other employees is not a normal responsibility of this classification, but may act <br />as a lead worker for temporary employees during peak periods. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following.) <br /> <br />1.Provides customer service to the public over the telephone, by e-mail, and in person <br />providing information related to property, taxes and assessments; answers inquiries, <br />computes interest and discounts, gives pay-off information and searches records for <br />information. Provides written verification of property tax information to government <br />agencies. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Receives and posts payments made via cash or check; issues receipts; completes daily <br />balance sheet; prepares deposits; reconciles records between FIMS and TSG. <br /> <br /> <br />3.Receives and posts prepayment of taxes for manufactured structures, disqualified farm <br />accounts, partition plats, and subdivisions. Effectively works with the Assessor’s Office <br />and Planning Department to insure all procedural guidelines are followed. Processes and <br />files all documentation necessary in the prepayment process. <br /> <br /> <br />4.Processes refunds due to overpayments and/or orders received; sets up refund files; <br />contacts affected parties; sets up refund batches; balances records between FIMS and <br />TSG; posts refunds to accounts. <br /> <br /> <br />5.Monitors personal property and manufactured structure status to collect taxes; answers <br />inquiries, prepares releases, files and/or releases judgments, prepares warrants, and <br />prepares pay-off notices. Receives, monitors, and processes abandoned manufactured <br />structure information in compliance with Oregon state laws. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
