<br />PERMIT SPECIALIST TRAINEE <br /> <br /> Classification #: 006 <br /> FLSA: Non-Exempt <br /> EEOC:06 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: <br />Performs a variety of clerical duties requiring considerable knowledge of laws relating to <br />building permits; performs related duties as required. <br /> <br />Upon satisfactorily meeting the experience and training requirements and knowledge, skills, and <br />abilities of the Permit Specialist classification, the employee will be promoted to the <br />classification of Permit Specialist. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED: <br />Works under the supervision of the Office Manager who assigns and reviews work for <br />conformance to departmental and legal requirements. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Supervision of employees is not a normal responsibility of positions in this classification. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following.) <br /> <br />1.Receives callers in person and by telephone; answers multiple telephone lines; transfers <br />or refers call to proper source; takes and delivers messages; answers routine questions by <br />providing readily available information; provides basic program information relating to <br />county/department/division services; makes basic interpretations of office policy to <br />facilitate office operation/program procedure or to convey information about services. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Meets and greets the general public and/or clients and directs individual to appropriate <br />staff; explains laws and regulations to the public relating to building inspection, fee <br />assessment and zoning; assists public in completing forms, permits and applications. <br /> <br /> <br />3.Uses computer system to retrieve information and provide data entry as required in <br />processing permits and inspections or in course of work; updates records; types technical <br />records and documents; composes and types pertinent correspondence. <br /> <br /> <br />4.Sets up and maintains files and indexes; collects building permit fees, processes receipts. <br /> <br /> <br />5.Takes inspection requests and relays requests, messages and instructions to field <br />inspectors according to their workloads, time frame, and office policies. <br /> <br /> <br />6.Files and retrieves files, permits and inspection documents, and index cards from vertical <br />12 feet high tab files or index card files, requires reaching and bending. <br /> <br /> <br />7.Takes applications for permits, including building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, <br />septic, demolition, manufactured dwelling, agricultural exemption and excavating and <br /> <br />
