<br />DEPARTMENT SPECIALIST 2 <br /> <br /> Classification #: 011 <br /> FLSA: Non-Exempt <br /> EEOC:06 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: <br />Independently performs a variety of responsible administrative support activities to promote and <br />maintain effective program services, according to established practice and procedures; performs <br />related work as required. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED: <br />Works under the general supervision of a higher level administrative or professional employee, <br />who assigns work, sets goals and reviews work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with <br />department and program policies and goals. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification; however, <br />may provide training and give instruction to volunteers, interns, and other office staff. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />This level in the Department Specialist series performs a variety of moderately difficult <br />administrative support activities according to generally established guidelines, regulations or <br />instructions. Incumbents are expected to understand and correctly apply appropriate rules, <br />procedures and guidelines. Starting with this level in the Department Specialist series, there is <br />an emphasis on providing broad support services in an independent, proficient manner. <br /> <br />This level in the Department Specialist (DS) classification series is distinguished from the DS 1 <br />level, by the effective performance of general office duties requiring prior training and <br />experience; this level is distinguished from the next higher level, Department Specialist 3, by the <br />DS 3 level's typical responsibility to serve as lead worker to other staff, and the DS 3 level's <br />independent performance of more specialized or technical work assignments. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> (Duties may include, but are not limited to the following.) <br />May perform any of the duties of the DS 1 class in this job series, but distinguished by a primary <br />focus on the duties listed below. <br /> <br /> <br />1.Receives and transfers business calls on a multiple-line system; provides information <br />relating to county, department, and/or program services; transfers or refers calls to proper <br />source; interprets office policy --to convey information about services. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Greets the general public and/or clients and directs individuals to appropriate staff; assists <br />the public in completing forms and applications. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
