Manage employees engaged in field enforcement of dog control <br />laws, shelter operations, including performing complex technical and administrative <br />assignments that require independent judgment. Work requires flexible hours including <br />weekends and holidays. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general supervision of the Community Services Director who assigns work, <br />establishes goals, and reviews results obtained through an analysis of management <br />effectiveness and the overall performance level of the dog shelter. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Responsible for the management of assigned employees and volunteers and the <br />administration of various activities related to the investigation, impounding, care, and disposal <br />of dogs. Responsible for the selection and training of new employees and volunteers, <br />evaluates performance, responds to internal and external complaints, and recommends <br />employees decisions to the Community Services Director. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />The Shelter Manager administers and manages all activities of the dog services division and <br />is responsible for the full operation and maintenance of the dog shelter. The incumbent directs <br />and oversees the development and management of the division budget, processing of <br />investigations, adoptions, disposition of animals, community and donor outreach, and <br />recruitment and training of employees, volunteers, and field enforcement section. The position <br />sets the work culture and philosophy of the shelter, envisions the future, creates the strategic <br />plan with the Community Services Director, and explores ways to increase connection to the <br />community. The Shelter Manager guides the decision-making of the Shelter Operations <br />Manager to create a cohesive, well-communicated program. <br />The Shelter Operations Manager supervises the daily functions of animal care operations; <br />including oversight of dog care, handling techniques, veterinary care, as well as direct <br />supervision of dog flow, behavior and enrichment, and facilities maintenance.
