Promote and model excellent customer <br />service. <br />17.Plan, facilitate or conduct public relations and education activities to promote the <br />adoption, redemption, licensing, and proper care of dogs; make presentations to county <br />and community groups; respond to citizen complaints against the county. <br />18.Prepare and maintain reports and records; researches, compiles, and analyzes <br />statistics and other information; develops and revises forms; oversees and maintains <br />computerized database. <br />19.May testify in court regarding violations; inspects and documents shelter operations; <br />performs field investigations as needed. <br />20.Perform other duties as assigned. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Bachelor's degree in animal science, pre-veterinary medicine, public relations, public or <br />business administration, or a closely related field; AND <br />2.Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in animal shelter operations <br />management; including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the <br />position, as determined by Marion County. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. <br />> <br />Must possess, at time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />> <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime <br />> <br />may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays. <br />> <br />Demonstrated experience with public speaking and community outreach. <br />> <br />Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to helping others reach their full <br />> <br />potential; including demonstrated supervisory knowledge, i.e., professional <br />development/training methods. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Considerable knowledge of state and county laws, rules, and regulations; principles and <br />practices of the care and behavior of dogs; knowledgeable of best standards of practice in <br />animal sheltering and a commitment to staying current on national trends; identification of dog <br />diseases and injuries; agency and community resources related to dog control and veterinary <br />referral services. Office and computer equipment and programs with demonstrated skill in <br />their use. Principles and practices of public or business administration and procedures with <br />ability to apply those principles, including personnel management, leadership, <br />communications, and budget/grant administration; participative management theories; team <br />building and conflict resolution; accounting principles, with record keeping and database <br />management techniques.
