HEAVY DAMAGE
MADE RECOVERY OF MUCH OF THE ORIGINAL CORNER EVIDENCE DIFFICULT AND REVEALED NUMEROUS ROCK PiLES iN AREAS
THAT MCSR 1448 AND MCSR 18595 HELD FOR CORNER POSITIONS.
TO BEST RESOLVE RELEVANT CORNERS OF SECTION 28, WE RELIED HEAVILY ON THE SURVEY CONDUCTED BY CULVER iN
1890 (MCSR 1088). HAVING RECOVERED WHAT REMAINED OF CULVER'S BEARING TREES, OR EVIDENCE THEREOF, WE WERE
LARGELY ABLE TO REESTABLISH HiS ORIGINAL POSITIONS. WE WERE UNSURE AS TO WHETHER CULVER'S REPORTED DISTANCES
TO THOSE BEARING TREES WERE TO THE FACE OF THE TREE OR CENTER. OUR MEASUREMENTS SEEMED TO INDICATE THAT
CULVER USED THE FACE OF THE TREE FOR HiS REPORTED DISTANCES. CONSULTATIONS WiTH MARION COUNTY SURVEYOR KENT
iNMAN, PLS 60050, AND CHUCK WHiTTEN, PLS 978 SUPPORT OUR THEORY.
iN 1979, WiLJO GREEN PERFORMED A PARTIAL SU13PWI51ON OF ADJACENT SECTIONS 22 AND 27 (MCSR 27782)
REMONUMENTiNG THE NORTH HALF OF THE EAST LiNE OF SECTION 28. OUR FINDINGS, AS WELL AS OUR RESEARCH OF PRiOR
SURVEYS, DO NOT SUPPORT THE POSITION OF GREEN'S CORNERS ALONG THiS LiNE. THUS, WE ARE NOT HOLDING GREEN'S
MONUMENTS FOR THiS SURVEY. THE INTENT OF THiS SURVEY 15 TO ADHERE TO ORIGINAL POSITIONS OF CORNERS AS CLOSELY
AS POSSIBLE.
THiS SURVEY PERFORMS THE SUBDIVISION OF SECTION 28 iN COMPLIANCE WiTH THE BLM 2009 MANUAL OF SURVEY
INSTRUCTIONS. TREES WiTHiN 3 FEET OF LiNE WERE DOUBLE BLAZED FACING TRUE LiNE AND PAINTED
ORANGE. BLUE RiBBON WAS PLACED ON OR NEAR TRUE LiNE. MEASUREMENTS TO BEARING TREES WERE TAKEN WiTH A 2"
TOTAL STATION (REPORTED TO THE NEAREST 15) OR A HAND COMPASS SET TO SAiD DECLINATION (REPORTED TO THE NEAREST
DEGREE). DISTANCES TO NEW BEARING TREES WERE MEASURED TO AN ALUMINUM NAiL SET AT THE 51PE CENTER OF THE TREE.
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, FOUND BEARING TREES WERE MEASURED TO APPROXIMATE CENTER.
THE ALIGNMENT OF NORTH SANTiAM HiGHWAY 22 WAS DETERMINED BY EXISTING MONUMENTS AND MCSR 36685.
