(UFC <br /> <br />There shall be no open flame or spark-producing equipment in any <br />spraying area unless separated by a partition and complying with the <br />fire code. (UFC <br /> <br />All spraying areas shall be provided with mechanical ventilation. The <br />electrical equipment shall be interlocked with the ventilation of the <br />spraying area so that the equipment cannot be operated unless the <br />ventilation fans are in operation. (UFC <br /> <br />Visible gages or audible alarm devices shall be installed to indicate <br />that the required exhaust air velocity is maintained. (UFC 45.204(b)) <br /> <br />The spraying operations shall be so designed, installed and maintained <br />that the average air velocity of the open face of the booth shall not <br />less than 100 lineal fe~t per minute. <br /> <br />Bends in the exhaust duct system shall be installed at an angle along <br />the centefline not exceeding 45 degrees. Bends or turns shall not <br />reduce the cross-sectional area of the duct. (UFC 45.206(h)) <br /> <br />Cleanout openings shall be provided at intervals which shall permit <br />thorough cleaning of ducts. All cleanout openings in duct~ o~ pipes <br />shall be equipped with tight-fitting sliding or hinged doors constructed <br />metal. The metal shall be equal or greater than the required thickness <br />of the duct. The doors shall be provided with a latching mechanism <br />capable of holding them tightly closed. (UFC 45.206(i)) <br /> <br />Exhaust ducts shall have a clearance from unprotected combustible <br />construction or material of not less than 18 inches unless protection is <br />provided per the fire code. (U~C 45.206(e)) <br /> <br />Exhaust ducts conveying explosive or flammable vapors, fumes or dusts <br />into the atmosphere shall be not less than 30 feet from the property <br />line; 10 feet from openings into the building; 6 feet from exterior <br />walls or roofs; 30 feet from combustible walls or openings into the <br />building which are in the direction of the exhaust discharge; lO feet <br />above adjoining grade. (UMC l107(j)) <br /> <br />Unless specifically approved for locations containing both deposits of <br />readily ignitable residue and explosive vapors, there shall be no <br />electrical equipment in any spraying area whereon deposits of <br />combustible residues may readily accumulate, except wiring in rigid <br />conduit or boxes or fittings containing no taps splices or terminal <br />connections except as provided by the fire code. (UFC 45.205(a)) <br /> <br />Electric wiring and equipment not subject to deposits of combustible <br />residues but located in a spraying area shall be of explosion-proof type <br />approved for use in such hazardous location. Such area shall be <br />considered a Class I, Division I hazardous location in accordance with <br />the Electrical code. (UFC 45.205(b)) <br /> <br />Electrical wiring, motors and other equipment outside but within 20 feet <br />of any spraying area and not separated therefrom by partitions shall not <br />produce sparks under norma~ operating conditions.
