We will accept stamped
engineering calculations which address our concerns and the enginee-
r's recommendations for any possible repairs which could bring the
building into compliance. The engineer (or architect) shall be
licensed by the state of Oregon to practice as such.

This is not our recommendation but an option you do have.

The carport has some major structural problems a~d does not comply
with code requirements as it now stands. The 3x4 rafters are spliced
in the center with bolts which is not acceptable without engineering
calculations for the connection and the rafters are overspanned for
their size, The grade and species of the rafter material is unknown
as they came out of an old barn and were used for the floor in the
barn. The inspector's report indicates that the rafters are sagging
at the splice. The minimum rafter size for the 10 foot span is 2x6
Douglas Fir ~2 rafters at 24" on center minimum.

The new 10 foot wide carport roof is supported by the existing 2x8
beams spanning 8'-9" which are also supporting the existing 10 foot
wide covered porch roof. The 2x8 beams are overspanned. They may
support the existing porch'roof but; not the additional load from the
new carport roof.

The posts are treated with an unknown substance and are used material
from a barn. They are not pressure treated which is required. They
are in the ground 1 1/2 feet with concrete and attached to the 3x4
beams on the exterior wall next to the property line with nails
toenailed into the post. No hanger or rigid connection is provided.

Senator Building 220 H!gh Streel NE Salem, Oregon 97301.3670
