Woodburn Fire District <br /> Operational Guideline <br /> Clor <br /> 7006.0 <br /> Apparatus Operator Safety <br /> Adopted: 04/29/94 Revised 12/18/2024 <br /> Responding to any emergency call,Woodburn Fire District places a great deal of <br /> responsibility on the Apparatus Operator(AO). Not only must AO's provide prompt <br /> conveyance of the apparatus, equipment and personnel to provide service to those in <br /> need, but as importantly, must accomplish this task in the safest and most prudent manner <br /> possible. AO's have in their care, custody and control most of the major assets possessed <br /> by this organization. AO's also have a higher standard of care to provide to the general <br /> motoring public and must take every attempt possible to provide due regard for the safety <br /> of others. AO's must constantly monitor and reduce the amount of risk and exposure to <br /> potential losses during each and every response. Safe arrival at the emergency scene <br /> shall be, and must always remain, the first priority of all AO's. In order to accomplish <br /> this enormous task, all AO's shall become familiar with and constantly abide by the <br /> following policies and procedures: <br /> A. Check All Sides <br /> Before moving any apparatus the AO and Officer should visualize each side of the <br /> apparatus including the front and rear. This is to make sure that all equipment is secured, <br /> ( that all compartment doors are closed and any physical obstructions are moved out of the <br /> �I way. If a person must move a unit by him/herself, he/she should first walk around the <br /> unit to check all sides. <br /> B. Apparatus Operator Responsibilities <br /> I. The AO shall be directly responsible for the safe and prudent operation of the <br /> vehicle under all conditions. <br /> 2. The AO first priority shall be for the safe arrival and return of the vehicle and its <br /> passengers. <br /> 3. The AO should not move the vehicle until all personnel on the vehicle are seated <br /> 4. The AO only operates the apparatus for the duration required to move the vehicle <br /> into and out of the station. <br /> 5. AO assures Vehicles will not be maintained or left idling in the bay area. <br /> •, Y • • • , . yam • • • • • • ' - •• <br /> any of the following: <br /> a. When directed by a law enforcement officer. <br /> b. Red traffic lights. <br /> c. Negative right-of-way intersection. <br /> d. Blind intersections. <br /> e. When the driver cannot account for all lanes of traffic in an intersection, <br /> f. When encountering a stopped school bus with flashing red warning lights. <br /> ( 7.
