The Officer should ensure that all personnel on the vehicle are seated in an <br /> approved position and seat belted. <br /> 2. The Officer shall ensure the AO is operating the vehicle in a safe and prudent <br /> manner during response. <br /> 3. The Officer shall assist the driver in determining the safest and most direct route <br /> to the emergency scene. <br /> 4. The Officer should operate the audio and visual warning devices. <br /> 5. The Officer shall be responsible to operate the radio and communications <br /> equipment during the response. <br /> D. Maximum Response Speed <br /> 1. The recommended maximum response speed is the posted speed limit, but not to <br /> exceed 10 MPH over the posted speed limit. <br /> 2. The vehicle's speed will be reduced whenever road, traffic or weather conditions <br /> do not permit the safe operation of the vehicle regardless of the posted speed <br /> limit. <br /> 3. The maximum speed when proceeding through any uncontrolled intersection or <br /> green light should be no greater than the posted speed limit. <br /> E. Intersections <br /> I. Crossing with a Green light. <br /> a. Slow down <br /> b. Take your foot off of the accelerator. <br /> c. Look in all directions. <br /> d, Be aware of oncoming traffic turning in front of your vehicle. <br /> e. Proceed with caution - one lane at a time. <br /> 2. Crossing with a Red light. <br /> a. Come to a stop. <br /> b. Establish eye contact with drivers of other vehicles. <br /> c. Wait for both the AO and Officer to communicate it is clear to proceed. <br /> d. Proceed with caution - one lane at a time. <br /> 3. Making right or left turns across stopped vehicles. <br /> a. Come to a complete stop next to the vehicle. <br /> b. Depending on what side the stopped vehicle is, the AO or Officer makes <br /> eye contact with the driver of the other vehicle. Wait for your partner to <br /> tell you it is clear to proceed. <br /> c. Be aware of vehicles approaching from behind. 1 <br /> d. Proceed with caution. `4/ <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br />
