FOUNDATION/FOOTING LOADING. The foundation and its <br />structural elements shall be capable of accommodating all <br />superimposed live, dead and other loads according to <br />Section 301 and all lateral loads in accordance with the <br />provisions of the Code. Fills which support footings and <br />foundations shall be designed, installed and tested in <br />accordance with accepted engineering practice. [Sec. <br />401.2] <br /> <br />6. FOUNDATION SIZE. When concrete reinforcing bars <br />are installed in concrete footings, the following <br />requirements shall be met to provide for a grounding <br />electrode system: <br /> 1. Uncoated No. 4 reinforcing bar installed not <br /> less than 20 feet in length encased with a minimum <br /> of 2 inches of concrete. <br /> 2. An uncoated No. 4 reinforcing bar stubbed up at <br /> least 12 inches above the floor plate line and <br /> tightly attached to the reinforcing bar located in <br /> the footing. The spliced lap of the stubbed up bar <br /> to the footing bar shall be a minimum of 12 inches. <br /> (See Section 4108.1.2.) [Sec. 403.4] <br /> <br />8. ANCHOR BOLTS. Foundation plates shall be bolted to <br />the foundation with a minimum ~ inch diameter by 10 inch <br />anchor bolts embedded at least 7 inches into concrete or <br />reinforced masonry and spaced not more than 6 feet apart <br />with a minimum of 2 bolts per piece with one bolt within <br />12 inches of the end of each piece. [Fig. 403.1a] <br /> <br />9. UNDERFLOOR VENTILATION. Provide at least 1 square <br />foot of underfloor ventilation for each 1500 square feet <br />of crawl space area. The openings shall be covered with <br />a corrosion resistant wire mesh. At least one such open- <br />ing shall be provided within 3 feet of each corner of the <br />building.
