The areas of the initial septic system and the future repair system must both be protected. 4. SAND FILTER systems are installed in soils where a layer that limits the effective soil depth, or a water table is present in the soil profile at a depth much shallower than allowed for a standard system. The sand filter unit pre-treats the septic tank effluent before it is discharged into the ground. The drainfield following the sand filter is installed at a very shallow depth and generally includes a capping fill drainfield. See the attached "Sand Filter System Requirements for Plans". Two sets of plans for the system must be submitted at the time of application for the installation permit. 5. A CAPPING FILL DRAINFIELD IS REQUIRED in conjunction with the septic system approval. See the attached "CAPPING FILL" information sheet for instructions. 6. The drainfield is installed a at a very shallow depth and fill is placed over the field to provide the earth cover over the system, CAPPING FILL SYSTEMS MAY ONLY BE INSTALLED FROM JUNE 1 AND OCTOBER 1 or during such times when Building Inspection staff finds soil moisture conditions acceptable. See the attached "CAPPING FILL" information sheet for instructions. Fill material must be evenly graded over the drainfield and crowned at the center to shed rainfall. 7. THIS SYSTEM MUST BE INSPECTED AND APPROVED PRIOR TO BACKFILL When work is complete and ready for inspection, call our Automated Inspection Request line ,a.t 373-4427 to request an inspection. Enter the number "801 for a PRE-COVER inspec- tion. You may leave a message for the inspector if desired. Be sure the System Record form with the As-Built drawing is on the job or in our office when the inspection is requested An inspection should be completed within seven (7) days.
