BATHROOM LIGHT / VENT, Bathrooms, water closet compartments <br /> and other similar rooms shall be provided with a window of <br /> not less than 3 square feet, one half of which must be <br /> openable, or artificial light and an approved mechanical <br /> ventilation system capable of producing a change of air <br /> every 12 minutes, [Sec. 303,2] <br />5. SMOKE DETECTORS / ALTEPJ~TIONS, When alterations, repairs or <br /> additions requiring a permit occur, or when sleeping rooms <br /> are added or created, the entire building shall be provided <br /> with smoke detectors located as required for new dwellings: <br /> the smoke detectors shall be interconnected and hard wired, <br /> EXCEPTION: Detectors shall not be required to be inter- <br /> connected and hard wired where the alterations, repairs, or <br /> additions do not result in the exposure of electrical wiring <br /> by the removal of interior wall and ceiling finishes, <br /> [Sec. 316.1.1] <br />6, STAIRWAYS shall not be less than 36 inches in clear width at <br /> all points between the handrail height and the required <br /> minimum headroom of 6 feet 8 inches. Minimum width from the <br /> handrail down is 82 incheswith one handrail, 28 inches with <br /> two. The minimum required stair tread width is 9 inches, <br /> The maximum stair rise is 8 inches, When risers are closed, <br /> all treads less than lO inches shall have a uniform nosing <br /> betweem 3/4 inches and 1 1/4 inches, The greatest riser <br /> height/tread depth shall not exced th smallest by more than <br /> 3/8 inch. [Sec. 314.1: 314.2: 314.2.1: 314.3] <br />7. ALL INTERIOR STAIRS shall be provided with a minimum of 60 <br /> watts of incandescent light or other artificial light source <br /> rated at a minimum of 850 lumens, Interior stairs of six <br /> steps or more shall have the required lighting located in <br /> the in~ediate vicinity of the top and bottom of the stairs, <br /> and the required lighting shall be controlled from the top <br /> and bottom of stairs provided the artificial light source is <br /> located directly over each stair section, [Section 302.4] <br />8. GUARDP~qILS AND HANDRAILS shall be able to resist a single <br /> concentrated load of 200 pounds applied in any direction at <br /> any point along the top. [Table 301,4] <br />9. CONCRETE SPECIFICATIONS. Basement walls and foundations not <br /> exposed to the weather, basement slabs and interior slabs on <br /> grade, except garage floor and steps exposed to the weather <br /> shall have a minimum compressive strength of 2500 psi. <br /> Basement walls, foundation walls, exterior walls, and other <br /> veritical concrete work exposed to the weather, porches, <br /> carport slabs, and steps exposed to the weather, and garage <br /> floor slabs shall have a minimum specified compressive <br /> strength of 8000, Concrete shall be air entrained, Total <br /> air content (percent by volume of concrete) shall not be <br /> less than 5 percent or more than 7 percent, [Sec. 402,2. <br /> Table 402.2] <br />lO. WATERPROOFING REQUIRED. Foundation walls enclosing <br /> habitable or storage space shall be waterproofed, <br /> [Sec. 406.2] <br />11. CRAWL HOLE.
