3

proposed structures are expected to be modest,

We have concluded, based on the above information, that the codvenience
store and the fuel island may be supported by conventional spread footings.

Recommendations

Site Preparation.

Schedule all site work for summer months only. The existing site
fill is sensitive to moisture and disturbance and may soften if
exposed to rain or vehicular traffic.

Strip any existing vegetation from within all proposed construction
areas including buildings, sidewalks, slabs and pavements. A 3-
inch stripping depth should be sufficient for the areas that have
been filled.

Compact the ground surface within stripped areas to at least 95%
relative compaction (ASTM D-698). A vibratory pad or wedge-foot
roller will probably be most effective on existing fill materials.

Foundation Construction.

Place the base of all footings at a dept'h of 18 inches below the
exterior grade.

Plan for a minimum width of lB inches for continuous footing for
the perimeter of the convenience store. Interior isolated footings
should have a minimum diameter or width of 24 inches.

Place at least 6 inches of compacted, 3-inch minus, well-graded sandy
gravel or crushed rock under all footings. A trench may be
excavated around the perimeter of the convenience store and backfitled
with at least 6 inches of granular fill. The trench should extend
at least 6 inches beyond the edges of the footings.

Alternately, the site for the convenience store may be stripped,
compacted and filled with gravel or rock. Footings may be placed
directly on the gravel or rock mat if their base is at least 18
inches below the exterior grade,

All gravel or rock placed on the site should be compacted to at
least 95% relative compaction {ASTM D-695).
