The space perfonns a number
of activities and is divided into a couple of different areas. Public, reception, tiles and office space, the
conference rcx~m and breakroom are toward the back. Some of the work stations require a drafting tabte ~vhile
others are simply work spaces with a phone for field personnel.
• Oi~ice systems are nav_y and cranberry.
• Consider break room (to be shared) or coffee bar for dep~, an area for sick ( maybe one per floor to be shared)
• lt would be advisable to consider ~ clean area for field workers (in parking area- boots etc.) Also a place for
storing bicycles. Also place for recycling bins.
• There is a training room in this building, shared by ihe departments with all new furniture that could be easily
moved. The size now is just a little small, it is used for 22 staff. Some sort of coffeebar would be nice.
PlanninE Dcnartment:
• Lobb}~/rec;c:ption has lhree people waiting at most. Area ~vith drawing files and rzgular files for public access.
• Storage- most tites are in archives but active files (5 years) are in the dept. There are 10-15 files( 4 dr.
~•erlical.) 1'he_y are used on an hourly basis and shared with Building Insnector and Public Works.
• Stat~~break room, a~ain could be a shared space with coffeebar ~a~ithin dept.
• Small conterence spac;e with 5' partition ~valts used for staft meetings and oc;casionally with public client works
~~erv ~~~ell tbr the department.
• 1~ wnishings are gray ~~ith oak trim and mauve.
Board of Commissioncrs:
Rec;eption area is ~mall and v~y i~olated now. Waiting room for four.
Conterence room tcx~ small no~+~. It is necessary to have a tackable acoustical wall covering for display
puipo~es. Il ~~~ould Ue helpful to have the space hooked up to the Hearin~ Room and have the Lobbyist, next to
the conterence rcx~m. (Need lo hear Legislature)
"fhere i, an c;xisting coffeebar that seems to be sufficient (it is located just ouGSide of conference room).
Cih~ Council Chambers:
In designing a new area it would he helpful to have an additional room at the back to house wires, t.v., and
equipment t}~e stuff (a control rc~om). It should have all state of the art equipment. (Cameras in sof~its etc.,
eliminating people standing in the middle of the room in the ~vay etc.)
Be aware of the fi.unishings, specifically the height of the counter and chairs etc., the drawers for the
commissioners are not used presentiy.
Children and Familics:
• Shares reception ~vith the Board of Commissioners
• Fuinishings are new, they are black and gray and more contemp. looking. (3-4 vertical files)
• There are t~vo private offices with two people in one and three in the other. The space is very crowded.
• Children and Families is the fastest growing department and can ezist on its own.
~
~ 7~
