~C~~L01~/1~~) <br />~#L i S 1994 <br />Masia~, c;~,;r~ ~r <br />DOWNTOWN FACILITY SUB-COMMITTEE B~AR~ CF ~Q;,rr;,;;;~~•,;-;;C <br />July 6, 1994 <br />The following points were brought out at the meeting: <br />The Clerk's office is now at a location outside of downtown. <br />Operations will be evaluated over a period of tiine to <br />determine if a downtown location is required. <br />Court services of the Sheriff's Department will require 2,968 <br />square feet. <br />There may be a statute that requires the Sheriff to be located <br />in the Courthouse. <br />The City of 8alem has not responded to the question~of whether <br />or not they feel some efficiencies could be gained °through <br />joint occupation of county buildinqs for administrative or <br />data center purposes. At this point it does not seem that any <br />efficiencies will be possible. <br />There may be some deed restrictions on the land the Courthouse <br />is on. These are being checked out to see what limitations <br />may be placed on the use of the land. <br />There was considerable discussion on what additional information <br />the subcommittee will need prior to the next meeting. We will need <br />to know the following: <br />The cost to make the existing Courthouse secure for court <br />purposeS. <br />The cost to remodel the existing building if it is to be used <br />for: <br />Court purposes <br />Administrative purposes <br />The cost to seismic retrofit the Courthouse and what will <br />trigger the need to retrofit the building. <br />There are several people housed in the Senator Building. We <br />need the options available to relocate them. - <br />The subcommittee decided fo look at building new buildinq(s) to <br />accommodate growth rather than to lease space. The rationale is: <br />Space may not be available to acoommodate the number employees <br />involved. The Senator Building will need to be torn down, <br />thus requiring space for over 200 employees. <br />The public can best be served through a more centralized <br />operation. <br />
