~.
REPORT OF THE
COURT FACILITIES SUB-COMMITTEE
Under the direction of the Marion County Facilities Steering Committee, the Court and
Court's Security Sub-Committee has met with the following direction from the full
Committee.
A. Review the documentation in the WE Group report and other information
provided by staff to assess the on-going facilities needs of the Courts and
supporting offices and agencies.
B. Develop recommendations for housing Courts and providing enhanced
Court security as a part of a long range plan, developing a"best possible"
option for Court facilities for an extended period of time.
C. Disregard issues relating to funding of options, leaving financing and
prioritization of county facility needs to the full Steering Committee.
D. Report the recommendations of the Court Facilities Sub-Committee to the
full Steering Committee no later than September, 1994, for inclusion in the
long range facility plan to be proposed to the Marion County
Commissioners regarding facilities issues county-wide.
REVIEW OF DATA AND PROJECTIONS
The Committee has reviewed the material contained in the WE Group report and
believe that the projections relating to Courts are generally reasonable. However, in
one area they have fallen short in their projections for caseload growth. The
projections included in the WE Group report (page 16) estimated Circuit Court filings
as follows:
Year Total Filinps
1998 18,169
2003 19,439
2008 20,800
2013 21,278
The Circuit Court's actual filings for calendar year 1993 totaled 19,803 which exceeds
the projections, even for the year 2003. The Court's caseload is increasing at a greater
rate than the WE Group had projected.
-1-
