PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY <br />A. FINDINGS <br />1. The Public Works Department is currently working out of five separate facilities. <br />The combination of the downtown department with the Public Works-Roads facility at the <br />location of the latter on Silverton Road would save time and money in personnel costs, travel <br />time and equipment needs. <br />2. It further appears that this consolidation of the downtown and Silverton Road <br />operations at the latter location would better serve the public, particularly if a small Public Works <br />office is retained downtown to work in close proximity with the Community Development <br />Department. <br />B. RECOMMENDATIONS <br />1. Construct a new 18,000 gross square foot facility at the current Public Works- <br />Roads location on Silverton Road, N.E. This facility will serve as the main facility for all Public <br />Works' operations: Administration, Engineering, Roads, Survey and Emergency Management <br />(excluding the three outlying shops facilities). <br />2. Technology should be in place to provide access to existing records for downtown <br />users (i.e., Planning, Assessor). <br />3. There will also be a small liaison office of Public Works staff that will be a part <br />of the facility plans for downtown to maintain continuity. <br />C. COST FACTORS <br />1. This facility will be funded through Public Works dedicated funds. <br />2. Preliminary estimates place the cost at approximately $2 million. <br />3.
