Marion County
OREGON
Facilities Management
December 27, 1995
MEMORANDUM
fACILITIES MANAGER
Bob McCune
(503) 588-5154 TO: Randy Curtis, Director
BOARD OF General Servi ~/
COMMISSIONERS N
Randall Franke
Gary Heer FROM: Bob McCune, anager
Mary Pearmine Facilities Manager
ADMINISTRATIVE
OFFICER SUBJECT: Chevron Lot Miti ation Estimated Cost
Ken Roudybush g
Jerry Koschal, 639-6305, Chevron's consultant for the clean up told Elyn
Lyon that they are very close to having the clean up completed. But if we
did have to move soil we can move 1,300 cubic yards and dispose of it at
River Bend for $40,000 -$50,000. River Bend accepts the waste for $26
per ton. Truck and loading expenses are included in the $50,000.
From this I extrapolated out this estimate to be:
$50,000 Truck and Load Fee
$34,000 Dump Fee
10 000 Cost of Fill to refill the hole
$94,000 Estimated Mitigation Cost
We also solicited another opinion from John Simpson at Spensor Environ-
mental, 1-800-733-0896. From the conversation with John, we make the
following assumptions:
One-half to three-quarters of the lot is affected.
Removal, mitigation and fill cost range is $50 -$60 per ton
One ton is approximately equal to one cubic yard
Typical excavation depth is 15 to 20 feet in loamy type soil, further in
sand/gravel mix.
This leads to the following estimate:
1225 square yards in lot times 3/4 = 920 square yards
920 cubic yards x$70 =$64,000 per every 3 foot depth excavated
15 foot deep excavation (5 yards) x$64,000 =$322,000
Therefore I'm offering you an estimated cost range of $94,000 -$322,000.
Marion County Courthouse • 100 High Street NE • Salem, Oregon 97301-3670
