Harding Lawson Associates
4. Provide a minimum of 85% filtration, if the return air side of an HVAC system is
used during construction. Separate filtration media shouid be specified on any
permanent equipment during construction. Just prior to occupancy, new clean
media should be installed. Ail coils, air filters, and fans should be clean before
testing and balancing is done and especially before baseline air quality tests are
conducted.
Credit 4: Design of Chemical Storage Areas
Design all chemical storage and mixing areas for housekeeping products (both central
storage facilities and janitors closets) to allow for secure product storage in spaces that
have water in the chemical concentrate mixing areas, with drains plumbed for the
appropriate disposal of liquid waste, separate outside venting, and negative pressure.
All storage areas for housekeeping equipment and products should have separate
exhausts vented to the outside and should be ventilated and operable under negative
pressure.
SAFEGUARDING WATER
Credit 1: Water-Conserving Fixtures
Install fixtures that use 20% less water than the water usage requirements in the Energy
Policy Act of 1992 as follows:
Fixture Requirement 20% Reduction
Showerhead 2.5 allons/minute'` 2.0 allons/minute
Lavato Fixture 2.5 allons/minute` 2.0 allons/minute
Lavato re lacement aerators 2.5 allons/minute` 2.0 allons/minute
Kitchen faucets 2.5 allons/minute` 2.0 allons/minute
Kitchen re lacement aerates 2.5 allons/minute* 2.0 allons/minute
Meterin faucets 0.25 allons/c 0.20 allons/c
Gravit tank-t pe toilets 1.6 allons/flush** 1.3 atlons/flush
Flushometer tank toilets 1.6 allons/flush 1.3 allons/flush
Electromechanical h draulic toilets 1.6 allons/flush 1.3 allons/Flush
Blowout toilets 1.6 allons/flush 1.3 allons/flush
Urinals 1.0 allons/flush 0.8 allons/flush
" Ht tiowing water pressure ot 80 pounds per square inch.
"' Gravity tank type white 2-piece toilets which bear an adhesive Iabel ("Commercial Use Only")
manufactured after January 1, 1994 and before January 1, 1997, are 3.5 gallons/flush.
The specifications and drawings call for flow control devices for showers to prevent
fl~w ovEr 2.0 ~allons;minute and for public lavatories to prevert flow ovzr C.5
gallons/minute. Also specified are infrared sensors for lavatories. The rest of the
fixtures do not meet the 20% reduction requirement. To obtain this credit it must be
shown that the total water consumption will be 20% less than it would be using
fixtures that meet the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 1992. A consumption
calculation based on demand calculation used to determine the fixture counts and
piping sizes would provide this information.
Credit 4: Water-Efficient Landscape
Use only plants that are tolerant of climate, soils, and natural water availabiliry, and
that do not receive watering from municipal potable water after a period of
establishment is complete.
• The plants listed on Sheet L1.0 are native to this climate, however, they may
need to be watered after they are established. This credit can be obtained if
plants are selected that witl not need watering after they are established. If this is
c~,;
