not possible, a variance to achieve this credit may be obtained if the following can <br />be documented: <br />1. Container plantings were selected over other types of landscaping to <br />minimize the use of water and avoid the installation of an irrigation system. <br />2. The types of plants selected for the containers are well adapted to the site, <br />tolerant of climate, soils, and need minimum watering from municipal potable <br />water after establishment. <br />3. Plants were selected to help as windbreaks or decrease noise. <br />4. A seasonal maintenance schedule has been pianned to address specific <br />times for pruning, watering, pest inspection, etc. In addition, mulching and <br />composting will be used to maintain plant health. <br />5. Plants that have similar water needs have been grouped together for ease of <br />care and to minimize watering. <br />6. An integrated pest management plan for the landscaping will be employed to <br />use biological controls of pests before artificial pesticides. <br />DESIGN EXCELLENCE <br />Bonus Credit 1: LEED Certified Designer <br />Team includes at least one principal designer who has satisfactorily completed a LEED <br />Design Training Course at the Bronze level <br />• The USGBC is in the process of developing a LEED Workshop.
