II. It was determined that the following points could not be achieved: <br /> Points <br />Credit Description Possible <br />SAFEGUARDING WATER <br />Water Recovery Install a gray water-recovery system that accomplishes one <br />System or more of the following: recovers non-sewage waste water; <br /> uses a roof or ground water collection system; recovers <br /> ground water from sump pumps 1 <br />It was deterrriined that it was not cost effective to install tliis type of system <br />Water-Conserving Install fixtures that use 20% less water than the water usage <br />Fixtures requirements in the Energy Policy Act of 1992 1 <br />The intent of t/tis cretlit was misinterpreted during tlie feasibility study phase of tl:e <br />project. At that time, it was ~assumed that the installation of "smart" water fixtures would <br />achieve the cretli~ Af1er discussion with the LEED Committee, it was determined tlzat the <br />entire water usage in the building must be 20% less than the water usage requirements in <br />the Energy Policy Act of 1992. Tfze LEED Committee said t/iat a study could be conducted <br />to show that the build~ng comp[ied with the requirement. The inechanical engineer advised <br />against this approacl: stating tJiat tl:e study would be based on too many assumptions to be <br />valid. In addition, given the other fi_xtures that /:ave been installed, the water usage in the <br />building is likely to be higher than the requirements. <br /> Use only plants that are tolerant of climate/soils/natural <br />Water-Efficient water availability, and do not receive water from municipal <br />Landscape potable water after a period of establishment is complete 1 <br />Tl:e lantlscaping consists of street trees and plants in containers. The plants in <br />containers will require water. <br />Convert Buses to Salem Area Transit indicated that it was planning to convert <br />Natural Gas all the buses to natural gas 1 <br />The LEED Committee determined that the type of bus using the bus mall did not have <br />anytliing to do with t/ae design of the building. LEED certification is jar building design, <br />therefore the Co-nmittee denied the request for the credit. <br />
