Saiki,; oss Control Manager
SUBJECT: Courthouse Square Security Concems
DATE: September 1, 1998
I have met three times with a workgroup pulled together to discuss issues
regarding Courthouse Square Security. At our meeting last week, it was
determined that we should communicate with you regarding our concems.
We have discussed the security issues and feel at the present time we do not have
the expertise or knowledge to make appropriate decisions regazding all the
security related issues for this building.
DISCUSSION:
I was asked to head a group of potentially interested people to discuss and make
recommendations regarding security related issues, prior to the construction of
Courthouse Square. I invited Bob McCune, Facilities Management, and John
Shultz, Sheriff's Office from Marion County and Ron Freshour, Security Manager
of Salem Transit to meet with me and discuss and plan for security related issues.
We believe that security discussions should have taken place during the inception
of this building. We aze now being asked to provide input on hardware and
location of security devices in a relatively short period of time without input from
the occupants or those who have decision making capabilities. Without complete
knowledge of the County Management's philosophy on security, level of security
expected in this building (see attached), fmancial commitment, and any
information regazding the future plans for the building, we were ill prepared to
make any recommendations other than basic lighting changes and environmental
3150 Lancaster Drive NE • Salem, Oregon 97305
~ Printed on Recycled Paper wvvw.open.org/marion
Reduce Reuse Recycle Recover
