What are the options for ancillary development, and public-private partnerships?
Development of other uses on the site that can reasonably be associated with success of the
transit function--such as a day care center or a police substation--could be eligible for federa]
funding under the grant. Acceptability would depend upon how the total package fit together in
a coordinated and logical form. It is also pernutted for the District to build such facilities as
transit office spaces and meeting rooms.
It was pointed out that FTA is very interested in public-private joint ventures, if there are private
developers who would like to enter the process. It was noted, however, that such projects are
considerably more complicated, and may take a longer time. They are often somewhat frustrating
to the private sector participants, who are not accustamed to the lengthy and bureaucratic federal
process.
~1ir rights cieveiopment is an option open io tne District and any partners in the project. Tne
District needs to maintain "effective and continuing control" over the transit properties.
(C:\W P\CENTERIFTAQUES'1~
