M ~ ' ~
d°~
O
~"~_„-,,..~,,,,~~
The purpose of this memo is to confirm the conditions related to my support
of the Senator Block as a future transit mall site.
First and foremost, is the question of funding. The County can only commit
to vacating the Senator Block if the facility bond measure is approved this
September. Even with the bond measure being approved, the passage of a
new tax base next year is also important. Additional operating revenues are
essential to the relocation and management of new facilities.
The second issue relates to timing. Even with the approval of our bond and
tax base measure, it is difficult to commit to a three year relocation plan. At
the present time we have not identified a replacement site for the Senator and
Courthouse offices. I will certainly do everything possible to coordinate our
plans with yours, but it's too early to do that right now. Once a site is
identified, we must be able to transition from both the Courthouse and the
Senator Building without adversely affecting our operations and services.
The Counry also has an interest in replacing all the parking (196 spaces) on the
Senator block. If we were to buy the Equitable Building, the Senator block
would be an excellent site for a parking structure to serve the Courthouse and
the Equitable Building.
D ~C~[~~~!1(~
C~ ~
r~ '~, ~ ~~~3
h4AR~ON ~bUMTY
BOARD OF COMN115Sior,~R~
Ser,atar Building • 220 High Street NE • Salem, Oregon 97301-3670
