impact. It is tough to put budget numbers together. We can estimate volumes and hot spots are
identified. Kathleen and Craig will meet next week to discuss the entire issue further and then
~ get back to county.
Dave relayed information about Statesman Journal project, and asked if workers in hole
with contaminated soils forming footings, do they need to be trained? It becomes a worker
health and safety issue, and you would need to monitor. We are looking at clean holes on our
site.
Another environmental issue developed during the meeting with the city public works. They
will need to run a test on the city sewer system to see if contaminates are in the system. They
need baseline data to start with. City is a partner in this project. If they find contaminates, and
the infiltration is coming from somewhere else, they will trace back to property owner and
challenge it. Nothing has been returned on coliform samples from Chevron site closest to city
sewer sent in last week.
De-watering is planned in Dave's budget for the footings, but it is not a major concem. The
sheer wall footings should be at about 15 feet total and column footings shouldn't go more than
2 feet deep.
Demolition
Demolition is continuing on schedule. We had a chunk of concrete hit a car on Court Street,
but Staton handled everything very quickly and their insurance will cover the damages. The city
restricted the closing of any more lanes, but for the rest of the afternoon, traffic was flagged into
~ one lane for a couple of hours. Another incident left scattered debris on a car on High Street,
but it was minor dusty stuff and nothing more was heard about it.
Accommodations to buses were handled efficiently, but the drivers needed to work at making
the turns. Dave may need more space on High Street when construction begins. Lane closures
will continue for another week. R.G. is more concerned with the permanent one set in place for
the construction phase and keeping the 50 feet back from Court on High open for bus movement.
Randy had an e-mail from the city saying that there were no permit fees. He resent the e-mail
to Frank Malden and Bob Wells . This will need to be re-evaluated with Dave's crew.
The sidewalks are half monolithic. Staton provided a bid of $5800 and change as add alternate.
The sidewalks will go in this phase. It does not include saw cutting, but if minimal, there is no
problem. R.G. stressed that the city made it clear if there is any damage done to the street,
including underground as well, it is our responsibility to fix it. Kathleen will encourage Staton
to saw cut the curbs.
If Staton is bidding on removing the basements, then why is rubble still be put into the
basements? They are completing work according to their signed contract. This is currently
being done in the Liu building only. Nothing else is exposed. Kathleen will check and put a
stop to pushing rubble into the Liu basement.
~ Cherry City Recycling is doing most of recycling. Company scheduled for tree removal around
project is licensed to work in the city right of way, a condition of the May 9~` permit. It was
noted the roots should be cut off on the big sycamores to avoid any damage to the streets.
