~ rounded architectural features are much more pleasing to the eye. We will get a' more dramatic
,~,,+ looking building with the rounded face. The rounded face will not limit the lobby s ace, which will
~ be all the way up. It was pointed out that if we want a canopy over the plaza, we will want a 45
degree angle. ''~
~~rr"r'r+'

No decision. Randy said that he would like to see some photographs before a deci~ion is made.
Walkway: There was discussion around design changes to the northwest corner f the structure.
One of the issues is getting a second walkway built across. The downtown m eting was very
favorable. They were very receptive and excited about the design and the project. ey did say that
they would like to see some weather protection along the west side. The de ign now has a
contiguous face with a covered walkway across the back. ~
RG had Leonard look at putting a crossing (north-south) across the center of the busi mall. Leonard
cautioned against this. RG said that it is necessary. If a crosswalk is not provided, pjeople will cross
anyway, in between the busses and traffic. He feels that the crosswalk needs to bel covered. Alan
felt that with the largest concentration of bus/pedestrian traffic is going to be i the front and
southwest corner of the structure. He asked if there is room to put in another co ered crosswalk
without cutting into the bus parking. The majority of the customers will walk acr ss the covered
area. With operations located there, it will keep most of the activity in that area I was suggested
that if the linear footage could be found, we could raise the existing columns p and suspend
additional weather coverage with cables, without adding columns. The east entran e will take care
of customers walking in from the capitol side. RG wants to these the canopies easily cleaned so they
won't have to go in with a cherry picker. Alan said they have looked at the catch asin design. It
will be a walkable surface, below the glass so the glass can be easily cleaned. I,
No decision. Alan said that this can be pushed back and be decided on at a later
Concrete vs Steel: Curt pointed out that we are now coming together as a te '. It was agreed
that we are now beginning to pin down some design ideas. Curt reported that one of e keys for him
is the concrete decision. The 30' x 30' bays make more sense if they are built with c ncrete. He will
be meeting with the engineers next week to collect more information. They are oming up with
some ideas on value engineering. ~,
Schedule: Curt handed out the new schedule. He will have the geo-techni
tomorrow. This is critical to begin the engineering. Another key date is the asbest~
be completed by 6/2/97. A meeting is scheduled for 10:00am, Monday, 2/24 in D~
over the contract language. We will go out for the bid process in the next few wee
make a quick selection and have the contract signed by 4/15. There was discussion ~
concept. We can start excavation 8/l, but this will only work if we do the project as
Curt was asked if he had to have a firm GMP, like a signed contract, before he can E
pointed out that we are on a fast track, if we do this as a phase concept, the danger
are under construction, we may be trying to redesign the structure above to keep cc
continuing construction. Alan said that once the GMP process gets staged, we can
commitments. We need to determine if there is an FTA issue here. RG said that v~
~l information
abatement, to
's office to go
~. We need to
~und the GMP
GMP process.
~n begin. Dan
that while we
s down on the
trt without the
need a budget
