~ Courthouse Square
General Services Management Staff Meeting
February 19, 1997
PRESENT: Randy, Elyn, Bob, Dan, Richard
AGENDA: Relocation
Design Status
ITEM 1: Relocation
Randy reported that there are may now be three site options to consider: Kmart, Best and the Fox
Building. Jack Fox is waiting to hear if the state is going to lease his building. He is not going to
negotiate with the county until the state gives him an answer.
Randy reported that he still considers Best the most promising site. It is already carpeted and, with
the county occupying the entire building, we will save on heating and cooling costs. The owner of
the Kmart site is not willing to make any improvements. Remodeling the Best site to meet the
county's needs will be less than it would cost to remodel the Kmart site to acceptable standards. The
lease agreement with Kmart states that we take possession on the day the lease is signed. The
~ agreement with Best states that we take possession once we have the occupancy certificates. The
Kmart space is $.60sf and Best is only $.45sf. Dan reported that the Best site has the 29,OOOsf of
potential office space that the county needs to accomodate most of the departments.
Randy asked for Dan to approach fitting the county departments into the Best building by taking the
data on each department and give them each a space allocation. He will then go back and sell this
to the departments involved. The modular units should allow the departments to do with less space.
Randy stated that he needs for the departments to approve the layout before he can finalized the
offer on the building. Building Inspection, Planning, Housing Authority and Public Works are the
big users of space. We should find out how much of Survey's equipment could be stored in the
warehouse. This leaves Dog Control, Purchasing, Stores and Neighbor-to-Neighbor.
Richard reported that Marvin is looking into leasing the empty Plaid Pantry office building on Turner
Road for pog Control. This would put them near the Humane Society. There was discussion
around putting departments in multiple locations, the increased computer costs and the need to place
departments in sites that are already occupied by county offices.
ACTION: Dan will get the figures for department needs by next Tuesday. He will get with Elyn
to arrange a meeting with departments. He will leave Dog Control out of the layout, and have the
option to leave Fiscal out of the layout. He will check with Survey to see how much of their
equipment can be housed in the warehouse space.
ACTION: Elyn will get the information on the Plaid Pantry building from Marvin. She will
~ coordinate site selection for pog Control.
