NOTES FROM COURTHOUSE SQUARE SPACE PLANNING MEETING
Friday, June 5, 1998
This mceting included representatives from all departments moving into Courthouse Square. Solid
Waste did not have a representative present. Leonard Lodder and Lisa Manz from Arbuckle Costic
Architects presented the first draft of the new design floor plans.
First Floor will house transit ticket offices/waiting areas and also house the main Hearing Room
forboth County and Transit. Plan is for two smaller conference areas adjacent to the main room.
Second Floor currently houses the Assessor's office, and the three Community Development
Departments: Building Inspection/Planning/Housing Authority.
The assessor's office raised concerns about not having enough room to house their department
within the space assigned to them. Lisa and Leonard looked at another option earlier in the
morning that might help in providing adequate space for the assessor. They are looking at shifting
the current arrangement of departments. They will explore this further.
Third Floor cuirently houses the DA's office, Support Enforcement, Victim Assistance and Solid
Waste.
Fourth Floor currently houses the BOC, Children & Families, Legal, Ta~Treasurer, Support
Services (Fiscal/Adrnin/RisklHR/Property).
Fifth I~loor will house Transit administrative offices, Behavioral Care Network (BCN), Neighbor
to Neighbor (N21~ and the expansion space for county and transit.
The assessor's office asked about what storage is available in the new facility? Some storage
is available in the parking structure. Right now there is about 1,000 s.f. near elevators, and as we
get farther in planning, we could identify more.
Will the clerk's office being staying in the courthouse and having archiving on site? Yes the
clerk's office will be staying in the courthouse building. If they have archiving that could affect
the Assessor's need for additional storage. All of the space being vacated in the courthouse does
not have to go to the courts. There is opportunity to talk about this option. Also the 5`~ floor
e~ansion space coul d allow for storage areas if not leased out. There is need to get Phil Miles in
the Clerk's office involved in discussing a county-wide storage plan.
The assessor's oftice was concerned about the noise level on the north side of the building,
closest to the bus mall. They have a real problem in the Franklin Building now. The Franklin
Building will have that problem because of age. Design should handle dissipating the noise. The
canopy partially over the bus mall will help as well.
