Leonard outlined how some efficiencies could be used to improve the layout of office space. Rather
than standard office areas, they are encouraging departments look at working with more open space
~ orwork unit a.reas. Gives more flexibility 5-10-15 years down the road with department growth.
Our goal is to work at keeping more natural light to the interior of the building and we have come
up with some alternatives that would allow this. Other options of interior glass panels in areas
where private offices would be more desirable have also been considered. Leonard suggested
fmding similar office layouts that a department could take a look at to physically see the layout to
see if that design would fit their needs. The Robinson Building is a fairly new building designed
by Arbuckle and built by Pence/Kelley in the Salem area, but it has a more traditional layout.
Randy expla.ined layout of adj acency requirements were dictated by the Board. You need to think
3 dimensional in terms of adjacency as well. Departments need to get with staff and work these
issues and get back to Lisa with any changes/requirements that have not been included. Lisa asked
that any conference rooms/breakrooms that could be shared between departments can be looked at
as well.
Randy is hearing the Boazd go in a direction that county growth has flattened out with Measure 50
and we won't see the kind of growth we had before. He is hearing a different message from this
group as some departments have already added some new staff since numbers and space
requirements were first given to Arbuckle.
Housing Authority is working on bonding capacity to purchase office space and may be
~ interested in le~ing additional space on 5te floor. Housing does not need to remain on the 2nd
floor, which would free up additional space to redesign the 2"d floor to accommodate assessor's
space needs. Another possibility to help this area would be to move BCN and N2N from the 5~`
floor down to the 2°d floor and move the Housing Authority up to the 5`~ floor.
Concerns about HVAC systems adequately handling airflow through open workspace.
Currently experiencing problems out at the annex because of the systems installed. The system
being installed is designed to handle office airflow patterns.
Timeline to get space planning completed: Arbuckle is looking at having all issues resolved by
the end of June.
Laverne Brotnov from BOC requested that she and Carol Fischer be included in discussions
concerning the design of the first floor hearing room. Leonard has meeting with CCTV on
Monday at 11 to look at some options.
