~
centurywest
ENGINEERING CORPORATION
December 22, 1997
Mr. David Hartwig, Manager
Marion County Risk Management
100 High Street NE
Salem, OR 97301
RE: Sewer Laterals Abandonment
Courthouse Square Demolition Project
Dear Mr. Hartwig:
The purpose of this letter is to confirm the conversation with Marion County regarding sewer lateral
abandonment on the Courthouse Square project. Marion County has requested Century West to sub-
contract Gelco Services, Inc. to seal 17 abandoned sewer laterals identified by the City of Salem.
Century West personnel met with David Hartwig of Marion County, Mike Staton of Staton
Construction, and R. Scott Graves and Tim Da1ey of the City of Sa1em Public Works department on
December 19, 1997. In that meeting it was decided and agreed that Century West would subcontract
Gelco Services, Inc. to seal tl~e seventeen laterals. These laterals are no longer in service due to
demolition of a11 structures on the Marion County properties located on the down town city block
bounded by Court Street, High Street, Chemeketa Street and Church Street in Salem, Oregon.
These laterals were not abandoned by Staton during demolition due to the anticipated
abandonment and rerouting of that sewer main for construction. The construction phase of this
project is currently suspended and the sewer main will remain active for the near future. Once a
construction schedule is identified, abandonment of the sewer main will be addressed.
Century West will perform this work under its existing contract with Marion County for
demolition management, work order 22. The costs for sewer lateral abandonment will be reflected in
our standard billing process. Marion County has agreed to have Staton Contruction pay for the costs
associated with the abandonment of five of ihe seventeen laterals. The five laterals were the only ones
identified during demolition as being active.
_ ~~ r~ ~~~~ _ F F E c T i v ~ _
1593 Clay Street NE Salem, Oregon 97301 Phone: (503) 540-0995 FAX: (503) 585-1657
