Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from high school, or equivalent; AND <br />2.Six (6) years of responsible experience in road construction or maintenance; including experience <br />as lead person of a crew and experience in the operation of construction or maintenance <br />equipment specific to assigned crew area; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to this <br />position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon CDL-A driver's license with tank <br />> <br />endorsement. Must possess, at time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />Must be a certified flagger with the State of Oregon or able to obtain within 30 days. <br />> <br />Must obtain, within 90 days of hire, an operations level hazardous material clean-up training <br />> <br />certification. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Must pass a pre-employment physical examination by a county appointed medical doctor and have <br />> <br />good physical agility. <br />Final candidate will be required to pass a drug screening test. <br />> <br />Some positions may require possession of, or obtain within five (5) months of hire, certification as <br />> <br />a Public Pesticide Applicator, including Regulatory Weed and Turf and Ornamental spray <br />applicator <br />> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Considerable knowledge of: road construction, maintenance and repair methods, tools, equipment and <br />materials specific to a classification and/or crew area; standard equipment used on road construction and <br />maintenance, including its operation, upkeep and minor repair; safety rules, policies and practices <br />pertaining to operation of road construction, maintenance equipment and signage regulations. <br />Ability to: lead and motivate a crew to develop interest and efficiency in their work; establish and maintain <br />good working relationships with coworkers and the public and to develop this ability in crews in assigned <br />technical area; develop or assist in the preparation of time and cost reports; knowledge and skill in basic <br />computer operations; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; lift up to 50 pounds <br />unassisted. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in a field environment or an office environment. Office work includes the use of a <br />computer using word processing and e-mail programs or programs specific to the position. Fieldwork <br />includes working in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes working in close proximity to roadway <br />traffic. Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain; to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; <br />climb up on vehicles to inspect load; stand for long periods of time; and work around compostable <br />materials. Positions related to road construction and maintenance may be required to work flexible <br />schedules and long hours throughout the year, particularly during construction season (May through <br />October) and inclement winter weather (November through February).
