Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />6.At scales: directs incoming vehicles to computerized scales; determines vehicle weight by <br />observing digital read out; makes weight ticket for vehicle; and re-weighs empty vehicle by <br />observing digital read out. Enforces restrained load program as well as monitors loads for tires, <br />appliances, electronics, and other prohibited items. <br />7.Calculates fees in accordance with standard procedure and set schedule of fees; collects fees in <br />cash or by credit card; makes change as appropriate; and collects data for disposal reports. <br /> Maintains accurate and complete transaction records; compiles daily cash and credit card <br />payments; and makes daily bank deposits. <br />8.Answers questions from the public and provides accurate information about department services. <br />May be assigned to assist in the dispatch center or the Emergency Coordination Center (ECC). <br />9.Maintains cleanliness of the scale booths, crew rooms, buildings and other public works facilities. <br />10.May be assigned to metal recovery plant operations work. <br />11.As per training received, may take part in chemical hazard clean-ups. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from high school, or equivalent; AND <br />2.Any combination of six (6) months experience in controlling or directing traffic, performing semi- <br />skilled road maintenance/construction work, exterior work that includes heavy manual repetitive <br />labor activities, or other closely related areas or activities; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training. <br />4.NOTE: Applicants may be required to pass a practical examination to assess skill levels. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />At time of hire must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable <br />> <br />driver's record. <br />Regular status employees must be able to pass a criminal history background investigation; <br />> <br />however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Dependent on work area assignments, some regular status employees may be required to pass a <br />> <br />pre-employment drug screening, and a physically examination which includes agility evaluation by <br />a county appointed medical doctor. <br />Some positions are safety sensitive which may require mandatory participation in the County's <br />> <br />ongoing random drug and alcohol testing and monitoring program. <br />Dependent on work area assignments, some positions require experience in public relations, <br />> <br />money handling, basic computer usage, and the ability to be bonded. <br />Dependent on work area assignments, regular status employees may be required to complete the <br />> <br />following County trainings /certifications: <br />Work Zone Traffic Control (flagger). <br />◦ <br />Awareness and Limited Operations' Level Hazardous Material Response <br />◦ <br />Lift Truck <br />◦ <br />Cash Handling <br />◦ <br />FEMA ICS/ NIMS IS-100 / 700 Incident Command <br />◦ <br />Employee development trainings <br />◦ <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in a field environment or a simple office structure. Office work may be intermittent and <br />includes the use of a computer using word processing, e-mail, or programs specific to the position. <br />Fieldwork includes: working in a variety of inclement weather conditions, sometimes working in close <br />proximity to roadway traffic. Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain; to lift and carry up to 50 <br />pounds unassisted; climb up on vehicles to inspect loads; stand for long periods of time; and work around <br />compostable materials. May be reassigned to various Department work groups requiring flexible work <br />hours (some locations operate a 7-day schedule), including after-hours call-out work.
